We are a small family farm in Mebane, Orange County NC operating since 2014. We have an intensive 1 acre market garden growing produce and cut flowers, a 1 acre orchard growing mostly figs, pawpaws, and blueberries, and we raise chickens, ducks, and turkeys for meat.  All of our poultry processing is done on farm.  All of our produce and flowers are grown following sustainable practices. without the use of synthetic chemicals. We sell at the Carrboro and South Durham Farmers’ Market, local restaurants, and wholesale flowers.
 
We are looking for 2-3 part time employees to work around 22-25 hours a week each. Mondays are Mandatory while the other days can be flexible.  Other workday options are Tuesday, Thursday and/or Fridays. The typical schedule is 8:00am-3:30pm Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and 8:00am-5:00pm on Mondays when we process poultry and Fridays.  We include a paid 30 minute lunch break.
 
We are looking for 1-2 employees with a focus on daily poultry care. We are also looking for 1-2 employees with a focus on our cut flower production. In addition, to these focuses all employees will have the below duties and responsibilities.
 
Duties and Responsibilities for all employees include but are not limited to:

• Garden bed preparation, seeding, transplanting, harvesting, weeding, and trellising.
• Washing and packing all produce from the garden efficiently and with care.
• Bunching and wrapping cut flowers efficiently and with care.
• Assist in on-farm poultry processing. Processing dates are always scheduled on Mondays. We process about once a month. Typically, the duties include plucking, packaging, and clean up. Our experienced crew members do the dispatch, evisceration, and butchering.
• Cleaning and organizing the greenhouse, tool shed, wash station, etc.  

Qualifications
 

• Must be ok with poultry processing.  Participation is mandatory for this position.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds easily.
• This job can be physically demanding, requiring long periods of standing, squatting and bending.
• Able to work outside in all types of weather.  Proper attire and lots of water are important.
• Thorough with a sense of urgency.  Cannot stress enough the importance of this. 
• Must follow instructions and execute tasks following a demonstration.
• Must have reliable transportation.
• Ability to work independently.
• Required to be at work on time ready to go when scheduled.  Must be reliable and consistent.
• Prior farm experience preferred but not necessary. 
• Must be 18 years of age or older

 
Salary: starting at $16/hour, based on ability & experience.  Benefits include produce, flowers, and meat to go home with when available.  Also, on the job training of how to grow produce, flowers, and process poultry.
